ABOUT ME

Hello,

I am Janie. The fringe faced artist educator behind Just Janie Creates.

I am a qualified art and design teacher, with a degree in Fine Art and a decade of experience in teaching across both schools and in wider community settings.

As an artist, I have always recognised the mindful benefits of creative activities, and as a teacher I have seen first-hand how art can play a vital role in positive wellbeing and improving confidence and self-esteem.

Just Janie Creates has grown from the seeds of a decade in teaching and weekends spent coffee shop-hopping - scrawling in sketchbooks and mapping out dreams of pouring my paints and heart into hosting creative wellbeing workshops that quieten the mind and awaken the soul.

I have been heavily involved in numerous community based arts and wellbeing projects in London and Manchester, including working as the Creative Director and Design Lead of the BBC recognised Creativity and Wellbeing School, Sketchbetter.

I love meeting new people and the creatively curious souls of the world!  I believe passionately in bringing people together, sharing my skills and delivering fun, playful, creative workshops to encourage you to connect and nurture your mind, creativity and curiosity in a relaxed and perfection-free space.

I host a range of Small Group, Private, Bespoke + One to One Creative Workshops, with a primary focus on collage.

I am always happy to collaborate with other practitioners, artists, educators and organisations. Please feel free to send me a message if you have any questions.

With love and lemons,

Engaging with your imagination, the arts and creativity are pathways to wellness.

The arts have consistently been employed as part of the healing process through the history of mankind.  The therapeutic benefits and role they play in mental health and wellbeing,  are increasingly being recognised as an essential tool to help us slow down, connect with our senses and focus on the here and now.

The creative arts connect us with ourselves and help us to make sense of who we are.  Playing, communicating, reflecting, making and unmaking, building and unearthing qualities and hidden strengths in ourselves. They help us to build tools for resilience, to find purpose and to witness ourselves flourish.

Picking up a paintbrush, or gliding a craft knife through silky paper can quite literally be the tool to anchor your thoughts in the moment and bring you into the present.

You do not need to be an artist to join one of my workshops.

I lead mindfully designed activities to help you focus on the creative process, establishing a moment of calm in creation, developing skills for mindful moments, whilst connecting your hands with your hearts to carry you back to yourself.

This is about you allowing yourself permission to carve out time to create, play, explore and experiment in a calm, supportive space at a slowed down pace.
